Senate Bill 487, passed in the 2007 Nevada Legislative Session created a new regional water entity in Washoe County named Western Regional Water Commission (WRWC).  The new law also created the Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission effective April 1, 2008.  Senate Bill 111, passed in the 2009 Legislative Session amended the 2007 legislation.

The Western Regional Water Commission adopted an Amendment to the Comprehensive Regional Water Management Plan on January 9, 2009.

The first official NNWPC meeting was held on April 30, 2008.  The NNWPC meets on the first Wednesday of each month.  Meeting dates designated with an * have been cancelled.
