WRWC & NNWPC

Upcoming Meetings and Materials

The WRWC and NNWPC meet regularly to determine priorities and funding for water resource planning and management in the Truckee Meadows

We are committed to leading a
cooperative approach to stewardship
of our region's water resources through:

  • Developing and implementing an integrated water resource plan
  • Building understanding and trust among all stakeholders
  • Establishing water resources public policy

Chapter 531, Statutes of Nevada 2007 created the WRWC effective April 1, 2008. As a result, the cities of Reno and Sparks, the South Truckee Meadows General Improvement District, the Sun Valley General Improvement District, the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, and Washoe County, formed a Joint Powers Authority to operate the WRWC. The Act also created the NNWPC that developed and is responsible for regular updates to the Comprehensive Regional Water Management Plan (RWMP).

RWMP

Regional Water Management Plan

The RWMP creates a framework for water management throughout the region. Planning topics include water demand and supply, water quality, sewage collection, treatment and effluent management, stormwater drainage and flood control.  Developing the plan requires regional data sharing and collaboration to determine priorities for:

  • Securing and developing additional water supplies
  • Maintaining and establishing policies for managing existing water resources and water supplies
  • Cooperative management of water supplies
  • Stormwater management and flood conveyance
  • Protection of watersheds
  • Development of regional effluent management strategies
